Green Tips - Switch To Renewable Energy

Running a server 24 x 7 means more energy consumption. I don't feel good about that, as well as running my aquarium, TV, lights, stove, etc, etc. Ensuring that my energy consumption is supplied by renewable energy sources is how I make up for it. Renewable energy sources are becoming more readily available to you front doorstep. In Australia, these services cost only a few dollars more each billing period, than your standard energy bills. I know some nations, especially in Europe are far more advanced than what we are and have been using renewable energy much longer. At home, the burden is small for the middle and upper class working family.

My bills are (AUD) $11 more each quarter. I don't mind that extra layout. It makes you feel better about yourself knowing that 100% of your energy consumption is coming from renewable energy sources that emit zero emissions into our atmosphere. Yes that's right...100% renewable. The amount of energy you take from the city power grid, will be made up by the renewable energy source at a 90/10 split of Hydro and 'cleaner energy'. The majority comes from hydro sources which isn't the cleanest approach, although 10% of my bills are put towards supporting and funding newer and cleaner energy sources such as 'wind', 'solar' and others.

If you live in Australia, try looking at Origin Energy's GreenEarth services. Do the match and see how much extra your bills may be if you tried it out. I found Origin Energy to be the only provider to truly deliver a 100% renewable energy service at the time I switched over to them. Others may have caught on by now. If not they should...They are loosing my business. If your not in Australia and are unsure of whether your energy provider offers a green alternate, why not ask them. If they don't, ask them why they don't. Go shopping around for other providers that may have a green alternative.

I hope to receive cleaner energy in the years to come.
